Variety of resources to support the teaching, research, and service goals of NC State faculty by providing insight and practical tips for engaging diverse student populations.

This website contains information grounded in best practices and the experiences of staff who work with international students on a daily basis. It gives practical tips for addressing common issues faced by faculty including strategies for increasing student participation, assessing the writing of non-native speakers of English, and ensuring student comprehension of class lectures. Each section touches on the cultural issues behind each suggestion and a tip.

The mission of the NC State Women’s Center is to build and create a community of authentic and engaged allies and leaders to pursue gender equity and social justice, enhancing the campus climate through education, advocacy, support and leadership development.

Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) researches, designs and implements unique programs that promote the pursuit of academic success, retention and graduation of students, with an emphasis on African American, Native American and Hispanic/Latinx students.

The LGBTQ Pride Center serves students of all sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions and their allies and strives to increase the campus community’s understanding of diversity by working collaboratively to raise awareness, promote respect and create a culture of equity, inclusion and social justice.

Community Connections, the e-newsletter of the Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity, informs the campus about diversity events, news and programs. Community Connections is published weekly during the academic year and monthly during summer.

NC State’s Bias Impact Response Team receives reports of and responds to bias on campus that may impact the campus community. BIRT ensures that reports are directed to the appropriate processes for addressing acts of discrimination, harassment, concern or violence to ensure due process.

The NC State University Building Future Faculty (BFF) Program is a two-and-half day all-expenses-paid workshop for doctoral students and post-doctoral scholars who are interested in pursuing academic careers and who are committed to promoting diversity in higher education.

Recruitment and hiring of faculty and staff are critical activities at NC State. Candidates selected for hire form the foundation and the future of our university. OIED provides search committee training and resources for those beginning the hiring process to ensure consistency, fairness and equity.

Through NC State’s institutional membership, all graduate students, postdoctoral scholars and faculty have access to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD), which provides professional development, training and mentoring.

NC State requires all supervisors to follow equitable hiring and employment practices. OIED provides resources to inform and equip those in leadership positions to comply with applicable policies and laws.

In addition to the Women's Center, NC State offers many resources for faculty and staff women, including networking groups, professional organizations, leadership programs, employment information and resources, and lactation, baby care and child care resources.

Diversity is critical to NC State’s mission. The university supports diverse perspectives and experiences throughout all of its colleges and divisions. The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity serves NC State's faculty by providing faculty-specific information relating to faculty mentoring and retention and other relevant topics.

Our office provides diversity and equity training programs ranging from single workshops to our year-long, award-winning Equal Opportunity Institute certificate program. Our National Coalition Building Institute chapter affiliate has received national recognition for its facilitation of prejudice-reduction workshops on campus. All programs are free and open to faculty as participants and facilitators.
