Research Development Office (RDO)

Housed within the Office of Research and Innovation, the Research Development Office manages research infrastructure for NC State and related services, including the identification, management and support of research funding opportunities, assisting faculty with planning and development of large interdisciplinary proposals via the Proposal Development Unit, as well as the oversight of Centers and Institutes and other units focused on interdisciplinary research, instruction and public service.

The Research Education Intranet includes educational information for faculty members that covers research e-learning, the Faculty Orientation Guide to Research at NC State, AALAS Learning Library, CITI federal compliance training, data management planning, proposal development unit intranet, and a research development and grantwriting newsletter.

Research Facilities and Administrative Rates

Facilities and administrative (FandA) rates general information covers current cost rates, the full rate agreement signature date, policies, determining direct vs. FandA costs, a guide on how to apply the correct FandA rate, and the university fringe benefit charge.

Research Leadership Academy

The Research Leadership Academy was established in FY2016 to promote a culture of research leadership at NC State. It complements two other groups honoring NC State faculty, the Academy of Outstanding Teachers, managed by the Office of Faculty Development, and the Academy of Outstanding Faculty Engaged in Extension, managed by the Office of Outreach and Engagement

Research Operations Council

The Research Operations Council (ROC) provides leadership at the college and university level for NC State research endeavors. The council’s monthly meeting agenda is set by the Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation. Members include the associate dean for research (or comparable chief research officer) from each college, the Vice Chancellor’s senior staff and the University Research Committee’s chair.

Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance Services offers budgeting guidelines with resources that include: uniform guidance, budget templates, conference/workshop food, consultants and subawards, cost sharing, equipment, fringe benefits, indirect costs, materials/supplies, other direct costs, participant support, salaries, travel and tuition.

Research Proposal Process Checklist

Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance Services provides a proposal process checklist, which covers: identifying funding and writing a proposal; contacting the College office; uploading a proposal in PINS; sending the proposal to the sponsor after college review; reporting to a college any and all communications with the sponsor; and getting funded.
