NC State offers a variety of mandatory and voluntary/supplemental retirement plans and retiree health insurance. The university also gives employees the option for a phased retirement and supports potential retirees with guidance on how to navigate the retirement process.
Retirement is a big decision. Employees need to consider the financial impact, Social Security, Medicare, other incomes sources, etc. The Benefits Office assists employees with retirement, resources on the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS), Optional Retirement Plan and making a retirement notification.

Some EHRA/Faculty personnel actions require either the Board of Governors or Board of Trustees to approve the request.
The Phased Retirement Program is intended to facilitate retirement decisions by allowing eligible faculty the option to continue participation in academic life and mentoring of students while preparing for the future.
